The purpose of the visit was to gain first-hand knowledge of how both independent and government media operate in Kenya, as well as the functioning of the Media Council of Kenya (MCK).
During the visit, the delegation held key meetings with major institutions, including:

Media Council of Kenya (MCK) They met with Hillary Korir, Director of Corporate Services, and other senior board members, discussing MCK’s role in journalist registration, handling complaints, and promoting press freedom.

They also visited the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC), where they met with Agnes Kalekye, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of KBC, and other senior officials, discussing the management of the state media, public service broadcasting, and safeguarding editorial independence.

Finally, the delegation visited the Royal Media Service (RMS), which operates 13 radio stations and three TV channels including Citizen TV. They met with senior television executives, including Jamila Mohamed, who briefed the delegation on media regulations, the relationship between the media and government, and maintaining editorial independence.
These meetings with Kenyan media leaders and the Media Council of Kenya were part of efforts to accelerate the passage of the Somaliland Media Law, which is currently before the House of Representatives.
While in Nairobi, the delegation also visited the Somaliland Embassy in Kenya, holding various meetings with embassy officials to thank them for their hospitality during the visit.
